wave after wave .. earth in itself .. bear the hallmarks of an organism .. a superorganism .. a system above all systems .. or better a system out of all systems existing .. a supersystem ..that adjusts its parameters .. parameters within which all its entities can fit .. entities that be the component systems and their component systems .. down to the human individuals proper ..

creation .. innovation ..thrive .. despite the crisis writhing currently .. crisis that never ceased to be .. since the dawn of humanity .. since the time humanity as a giant baby trodden on its four paws .. trying to get its bearings .. learn how to walk and run .. and it did learn and keep learning .. managed each epoch in its long history .. to cover each inch upon this earth .. to reach each .. unreachable target .. only to find out .. more and more targets to be reached .. still targets keep cropping up .. the stakes are getting high .. demand more out of humanity .. more concerted efforts .. efforts that the current framework humanity relies upon ..can not afford ..

current framework .. highly divided ..disparate .. weak for the tasks ahead .. demands a thorough breakup of the structures prevailing .. the disorganised implementation of the tasks at hand .. the false adherence to the vehicle of money .. the utter dependence for growth .. to an insignificant factor .. the artificial divisions that pushes humanity towards .. weakening its efforts .. straying off the targets set .. unable to live up to expectations ..

progress growth .. its total reliance upon money .. the false indicators adhered to .. the overwhelming preponderance that banks have achieved .. banks housing the elites .. the stranglehold of further progress of humanity .. the limited horizons at bay under their narrow and selfish perspective .. do not suffice ..

the exponential curve .. humanity's growth .. being set upon since a mere century ago .. is still in its infancy .. it hasn't reach its upper limits .. not even near its middle .. the push the momentum would not decrease .. it carries forward humanity .. it would rid of the obstacle that money presents ..is .. and with it the banks that represent it .. humanity would glean as the whole that is .. and not the whole out of the elites alone with their banks .. as it is amply revealed ..in this instant of the humanity's growth curve .. the world deep into an economic crisis .. while at the same time ..creativity and innovation continues unabated .. that the economic crisis is artificial .. man-made .. and that what matters .. are the resources .. human mainly and the material resources available .. and as for the material resources .. for providing the energy required .. technology constantly replenishes the energy arsenal .. new sources are uncovered .. and their lack of use .. the reason being left unused .. it clashes with the vested interests of the economic elite .... as it will entail its collapse .. the global economic economic structure .. utterly inflexible .. non-conducive to progress ..

Restoring the Rule of Law

Common Cause was formed during the constitutional crisis of the 1970s as Richard Nixon sought to rise above the rule of law. We as a nation have been facing a similar and arguably greater crisis for much of the last decade. The Executive Branch of government has systematically violated U.S. law, personal liberties, and illegally used signing statements to ignore the will of Congress. Congress was also complicit in its failure to stand up to the Executive Branch.

As a result illegal warrantless wiretaps were used to spy on Americans. Habeas Corpus was suspended. U.S. law regarding the treatment of foreign detainees was simply ignored and foreign detainees were tortured in prisons in Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib and “black sites” around the globe.

Now, with a different Administration in place, we are pressing to restore the rule of law and to hold accountable those in the past Administration who were architects of these systemic violations of US law and the Constitution.

In the fall of 2009, Common Cause honored five military and civilian personnel who stood up for the rule of law and worked to stop the misguided policies and practices.

Common Cause has previously taken a number of actions to hold members of the past administration accountable for abuses of executive power.

•We have urged President Obama to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate abuses of power in the last Administration. Common Cause believes such a special prosecutor must have authority to look into questions around a) torture and enhanced interrogation tactics b) warrantless wiretapping and additional surveillance systems and c) abuse of executive privilege and signing statements.

•We have called for the impeachment of Judge Jay Bybee. Bybee was the head of the Office of Legal Counsel at the Justice Department and the chief author of the memo which authorized various forms of torture including waterboarding, slamming detainees into a wall, putting them in “stress” positions, and depriving them of sleep for up to 11 days.”

•We have called on Congress to create a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to investigate the past Administration's abuses of executive power. These include authorizing the use of torture in treatment of detainees, warrantless wiretapping, extraordinary rendition, and executive override of laws.

•We have organized a letter of commendation signed by senior military officials, members of Congress and former President Carter for individuals within the U.S. government who worked to stop the practice and policies of torture. Morning, the mind afresh, chance (if not the right symbol, no matter the true(?) word would come forth) has it I landed on that page, 184 to be exact, of John H. Holland's book of emergence, from chaos to order.

I started by reading the paragraph with the heading, Computational Equivalence, and my thoughts were stirred ahoy.

"In one sense, a cgp-v can tell us no more about emergence than a cgp with fixed structure. After all, a cgp with fixed structure has the power of a general-purpose computer, so we can embed in it any kind of computation-based model. That is, the different versions are equivalent with respect to computational power."

Though, I started with this paragraph, now that I have finally written it, the deluge of thoughts which it has unleashed in my mind, just mere minutes ago, if not fizzled out, have been overtaken by other thoughts, in a sense I can not keep up with myself. So many concepts are dealt with, in this paragraph, which can not be taken all at the same time, either being fully comprehended or taken as fodder for further thoughts to develop.

The main distinction that struck me, is that either fixed or variable cgp's, the constrained generating procedures, have the same computational power. Fixed cgp's, which in my mind is taken as static of sorts, and the variable cgp's as dynamic. Though the distinction of static and dynamic taken as a matter of the time interval assumed. Within the limits of a given time interval fixed cgps, appear static. .....

The distinction brought out by Holland, of computational power and insight, the difference between the fixed and variable cgps, at the heart of my stirred up thoughts. The constraints appearing as laws, norms, even habits, the parameters in any system that within their constraining fields apply the procedures to generate behaviours. Fixed cgps, equivalent to sticking to the letter of the law as opposed to variable cgps, the flexibilities it brings forth, expressing the notion of insight. Insight augmented beyond the confines of the human mind's ingenuity to the realm of any system, even to a society impregnated by insight.

Almost impossible in an inappropriate framework, based on cgps that are fixed, constraints that are fixed, inflexible. Laws that do not offer leeways, do not act solely as guides but rigid directions for free agents to follow, providing inappropriate frameworks, the constraints imposed unbearable for the agents of a system. Appropriate frameworks, the structures made out of, well-tuned to the questions at hand, the problems faced by agents, the solutions sought after.

What are the implications of Darwin's theory in the making of societies worldwide? What has been hiding in the shadow of its clash with the creationist movement, obscuring the issues which have survived barely noticed and continue to plague human societies to nowadays.

Natural selection idea and quite a lot of its offshoots being heavily influenced by Darwin's social background that has going through unnoticed. I feel I have to go through the article of New Scientist, 31 January 2009, 'Evolution's final frontiers'

to trace the origins of the most sinister offshoots of Darwin's theory that has so devastatingly influenced the make-up of today's societies, which somehow have accumulated fallacies which have plagued human individuals thus far. My thesis is that this is not a result of mis-interpretations of Darwin's theories over the years by other theorists, but of Darwin himself. He is responsible for the parts of his theory that have had an adverse effect in the development of societies, he himself infused his personal touch in these parts of the theory that perpetrate illusions and distort and destroy values human individuals adhere to.

Why it has survived in our consciousness practices expressed in the saying(?)

"Ο θάνατος σου η ζωή μου"

which literally translates 'my survival goes through your extinction' and refers to single individuals or groups of individuals in unfolding their activities and acts, in almost all aspects of human activity and draws its (power?) from Darwin's theory. What is responsible for all acts of violence, wars included.

Instead of 'live and let live' which would come naturally if we accept instead that all activities of social groups goes through replacement rather than competition. Activities unfolding side-by-side instead of one-against-another that now pervades all aspects of human relationships.

I feel I have to go through the responses of all th individuals that have offered their contributions, looking them from the perspective I develop, namely fight for survival or co-operate and live-and-let-live stance.

Darwinism have been left to develop unscathed, not from the strictly scientific perspective, but its political implications as a result of its long-drawn battle with creationism. As, now it has emerged victorious, as I would say expected, it needs to be rectified to adapt with the aspirations human individuals adhere to, instead of distorting and warping the basic(?) elements responsible for the development of human relationships.

As I think, these mis-conceptions is a result that stem from Darwin, and especially a result of Darwin's era, which except from Darwin had others like Thomas Malthus, which was admired by Darwin and have been influenced by, and their theories have plagued humanity.

There is a major flaw in the bailouts, in the way it is approached by all governments and states. That the institutions are worth saving, that they matter more than the individuals. They are not there to provide a service to the individuals, they are there for their own selfish goals, for their very own sake.

Chaos and and its sensitive dependence on initial conditions.

The rotary clotheslines dryer outside in the open, a system proper, with clothes hung, pegs and clotheslines, as it appeared after a night of strong wind and rain. Clothes still soaking wet, pegs and clotheslines all twisted around, wrapped with one another, a real mess. The ordered state of the hung clothes the night before and the chaotic state, tangled up clothes pegs and clotheslines, in a chaotic arrangement, the morning after.

Trying to untangle the wet cloths hooked by pegs on the clotheslines, in a manner reminiscent of, re-tracing back the paths taken, proved hard if not impossible. But when I unhooked the pegs and took off the clothes, and hang them back again, the only solution, clothes and lines were untangled.

The pegs provided the constraints. Determined the paths followed towards their chaotic states.

The first thought came up, when I noticed the sleeve of a blouse wrapped around successively onto different stretches of ropes that run parallel on the rotary. The wind wrapped the sleeve around the stretches of rope, in stages. At the end of each stage, the state achieved, represented the initial conditions, and these states-cum-initial conditions determined the next state of the sleeve and rope system. The next stage.

Each new state-cum-initial condition represented the arrangement upon which the wind, the force-bearer, the rain, the provider of wetness, which formed stable bonds between the items, the low temperatures which froze clothes on ropes, all-in-all a parametre-fixing process for the new state of the rope-sleeve system, being the initial state for another bout of chaotic development.

That leads to the thought that in every state presented, in any system, there lie the initial conditions capable to drive a bout of chaos, to be the field that chaotic dynamics can unleash its power.

Successive states, from one end to another, and intermediate states in-between. Each intermediate state capable by itself to be the initial conditions for a chaotic development, and possibly a bifurcation to new attractors.

What if someone tries to unfold, to trace back from a certain state, to the state or states before? Not from within the system as the traces are lost.

When I tried to untangle sleeve and rope system, I realised that I could not untangle rope and sleeve by going back to the state immediately before. I had to unhook the pegs and remove the blouse completely. That released the holds between the two items, constraints no longer applied, and as both were freed by the ties chaos created, the items were separated, reverted into their primary states, got released. The same happened with all the other clothes items, which again I had to unhook the pegs, the pegs representing the restraining conditions which were responsible for the chaos in the clotheslines rotary.

Myself, I was acting as an outside force, overseeing the whole chaotic situation and ignoring the rules that created the chaotic state. I acted from above it, provided the solution and resolved the stalemate.

The thought relevant to the way the solution came up, by being out of the boundaries of the system or even being above the system, which it can be taken as a solution provided from a system, in that case the system that includes the system sleeve-clotheslines, is reminiscent of the idea of 'απο μηχανης θεος' or its Latin equivalent 'deux-ex-machina', in the Greek plays of antiquity. Deux-ex-machina offered the opportunity to the writer of play, to invent a solution that the actors needed in the course of the play, which was not part of the plot. It was out of the plot.

The thought about 'deus ex machina', can further be extended in the thought that the solutions provided do not take into consideration of what we perceive, what our senses allows to see. Solutions that appear to be out of context?

It can even be thought in connection with evolution. Speciation? How the selection of a population to become a species takes place? A 'deus ex machina' process to effect selection, instead of natural selection? Rendering natural selection concept obsolete?

Figments reminiscent of what makes the whole more than the sum of its parts? Even implicated with the emergent properties of the whole? Properties that the parts do not have?

Imagine what will happen in similar situations, in systems bringing forth the principles of self-similarity and universality of chaotic dynamics, where it is not possible to have an overall, or an above all picture of the developed situation, the developed chaotic state. In a social situation. Would somebody not feel helpless, suffocated, lost in the tangles that states in every stage, acted as initial conditions upon which chaos worked on and produced the tangles, state-acting-initial condition upon state-acting-initial condition, loosing trace of the state that existed before,that it was before.

Loosing trace of the state(s) that existed before? What does this actually mean? That the outcome state become overwhelming in our consciousness? We can not see underneath it? The parametres and variables of the state presented to our perception, swamps our consciousness and we cannot define what were the states-cum-initial conditions underneath? Preceding the outcome state. Something that possibly has to do with the paradigm shift effect?

One thing comes out of this clothes rotary incident? Chaos works at any given state as if (?) the state presents the initial conditions. Sensitive dependence and all that determines the outcome state. Chaos ignores what the previous states were or are. What it matters is the state at a given point of time and space. All other attributes inherent in the state are irrelevant and are buried under the newly created state. Buried, out of sight, they can not be seen, no stimuli evident, they are forgotten?

Solving problems, performing astounding feats of mind and body is not a privilege of any class, race or gender.

I should stop this, I get carried away and I forget what it really matters to me. The thoughts triggered in my mind when I read an article in the Guardian newspaper on Steven Pinker, with the title Basic instincts, especially the mention of blank slate or tabula rasa, the idea that nurture is more important than nature. Somehow, out of the blue, as I think is called, brought forward the notion of discrete units and concepts. That what we are, it is up to the things we learned and built on, in some sort of schemata mode. Procedures stored in memory or whatever, which we bring forth on demand. When a situation arises.

It is upon the amount and accuracy of these amassed procedures that define individuals as smart clever or stupid. The less an individual has, the least the ready-made, 'off-the-self' solutions (or may be alternatives) can offer at given problem-solving situations, and unfortunately we need a lot of them, each for every little detail in the problem-solving situation at hand. If there is no relevant 'of-the-self' solution, we stall, as we have to make up one. That is where the associative side of our brain kicks in. Associative in the sense, that the brain has to perform new associations, re-arrange the already existing procedures in new ways so the solution sought, may come forth. In search for a viable solution-alternative to deal with a problem. Something that might take place by a neuron synapse bout in the brain.

How many times these words have been, are and will be uttered, a sign of scorn poured at one another, only to leave distinct marks on people's lives, cloud the mind, distort and warp judgment.

A practice that leads individuals to build impenetrable fortresses to protect their ego, intolerance seeps in, they become hostile to other individuals being viewed as intruders, pounding at their shelter, keen to destroy what is of value for them, what they hold dear in their minds.

A practice that breeds and sustains embittered social frameworks, alienates individuals from one another, bringing strife and misery amongst them.

Everything the individual comes across, is looked upon with suspicion, as the nagging fear of not to be caught at being stupid looms heavily on, all out to defend itself from the humiliation which the ego would not permit. Armed with a whole armada of words and meanings, built around it, purpose built language, guard ourselves against attacks, constantly in fear to let ourselves open. Becoming more austere and vicious in our attacks on other peoples perceived stupidity in the hope that we will cover well, our own inadequacies and shortcomings. Build worlds on the premises that our own personalities, our egos, are well hidden within it.

As young people grow, the blank slates, being vulnerable, easy prey, being terribly traumatized, learn quickly to cocoon themselves within their bounds and kill all the vigor that freely expressed thoughts brings forth as they are constantly pounded by adults, their own parents or teachers, no exception, the biggest perpetrators, already trapped within the web of societies deeply penetrated by fragile encased egos, harboring insecure personalities

And if young people survive at all, with whatever they manage to salvage from their inner self, are unleashed to populate the enmassed adults, already deeply gripped by the fear of being revealed of who they are. Situations engineered to meet the objectives of societies overwhelmed by the insatiable monetising greed in service of masters.

Ideas that stem from an unwillingness to comply with the limits of our mind's mental capacity, the limited worldviews we built, that we carry imperfect minds, no one excluded. That once focused on something we can not alley our concentration to anything but what we are focused at, derived by the main attribute of our consciousness/awareness to pay attention to a single item at time.

Interfere with physical causality, in the sense of procuring outcomes that fall short of what is prescribed by causality's tenets? Causality, as it refers to cause and effect sequence of events; where the cause precedes the effect, and free will change the flow of events, interfere with its deterministic course?

Do I think that what I write and say, is what actually is? True? Why do I feel alien towards the word true? Is this the essence of the argument, I am trying to put forth here? Do truth actually mean anything? Anything at all?

Truth or what actually is.

What is, it is. It is despite of me or anyone else. Everyone else. Do I know what is? And if I know what is, is what I know about it, what it is? Judging the truth of my knowledge about it.

How would I know whether I know the truth about it? And what true is? It is a purely subjective stance. It is 'truth' to me. It is 'true' for me. Sharing it with other individuals or all individuals (in live?), it does not change the stance. It still remains subjective.

It is 'truth' for me, us, the whole of humanity but it is still nothing more but subjective.

Truth is beyond human capacity, it is a trait that has been attributed to an omniscient, omnipotent being and can not be attributed to any human being, neither by association nor by any other form of reason or logic, and by that of science.

It suffices to say that I/we know what it is, it is and there is nothing more than that. It holds, as long as, what I/we know about it, can be used to provide solutions to problems faced, explains, gives living meaning and used to measure what other individuals know about it.

And that holds for any individual all over the world.

I read in "Fractal Neurodynamics and Quantum Chaos: Resolving the Mind-Brain Paradox Through Novel Biophysics", in Chapter 6.2, Chaotic Excitability as a founding Eucaryotic Characteristic,

"Chaotic excitability may originate deeper in evolutionary history, representing one of the oldest features of eucaryote cells (King 1978, 1990)."

And not only of eucaryotes but even deeper to the chaos instigated rise of life itself, since

Subroutines or subprograms run in the background and take care of tasks assigned, integrated with other subprograms to a single global program. Communicate with the main program via interfaces, by which they pass over the results of their code execution and at the same time receive instructions based on the results of code execution of other sub-programs, a continuous uninterrupted cycle.

The program subroutines can be visualized as the norms that prevail at a certain time in a social structure. A number of several subroutines combine to produce the subprogram for the social group. In the social group, their activities are programmed in the same way as a computer program. This takes over all the spectrum of activities that human individuals are engaged today. The jobs they do, their education and whatever other acts are required to do by being a part of a social group. Therefore that frees individuals from the burden of the day to day tasks, that they have to do to ensure their survival and maintenance of their beings. World-wide production is channeled to the appropriate areas in the world as the needs arise, identified by the running subprograms and passed on to the global program. A world wide logistics program. The know-how built in many areas of economic activity, by multinational corporations will provide the blueprints to organise the infrastructure of production and management of an enterprise of that scale.

This replaces all economic systems and market infrastructures, uproots human interference in common causes, whatever the intentions, providing time for the individuals to pursue activities which will increase intellectual capacities and scope of life. Each one, will be freed by an enormous amount of distractions so it will be able to devote wholesomely to discover for itself and indirectly for others, the nature of reality.

This means that monetising will be completely eradicated and a lot of its drawbacks will vanish from societal infrastructures.

Discrete states and discretisation.

The process by which our mind is able to distinguish between discrete states (it can be called a discretisation process), makes it possible to identify the states and the processes which are responsible for bringing them about, in the first place.

A human individual's discretisation powers come by learning and it leads to enhanced ability in discerning the boundaries between states and avoid the confusion of one state from another no matter how much their boundaries might overlap. This is where language helps. A tool that attempts to provide precise definitions elaborating concepts that make up and reveal a state's organisation.

By being able to distinguish between states in the environment, we increase the ability to recognise their presence and occurrence in the surroundings, no matter how subtle they appear to be. Further, by being able to recognise a greater amount of states, we are able to take in a greater chunk of the surrounding environment. I found this entry in a draft form, in the Pandora's Box blog I maintain, but I fail to make out, what is it for. The thought that triggered and instantiated its existence has been lost. But the notion intrigued me and I felt an impulse to trace its meaning, and reach a conclusion, if there is any.

By starting with the notion of discrete, and arrive upon a meaning, as referred to, and as it applies upon the state, a discrete state. That states presented to our consciousness are discrete!! The information gathered in Answers.com states

Discrete then, meaning, being separate. Going a little bit further,

A state that is separate, and should be treated as a single unit, consisting of unconnected distinct parts? A state to be regarded as a unit? A simple mechanism among a population of like states-mechanisms, that bring about complexity? Complexity that could lead to emergence? But what about unconnected? A state unconnected with its environment, with other neighbouring states? Certainly not. There are an enormous amount of interactions with other states, the surrounding environment. It can not be unconnected.

Though the unconnected property might refer to the parts of a state, the parts of the single mechanism. Which can be a unit, the whole out of the parts. Along the lines of a whole that is more than the sum of its parts? And the parts are unconnected? Without excluding the interactions between states?

Consciousness reveals itself in cycles, self-referential ? Chaotic?

The few thoughts that entered my mind questioned the strength of my convictions about the 'real' consciousness as I thought of it, or still think of. Namely the conviction that the unconscious part, the part that we are not in control, is more significant than the part we are in control. That the part we have a control upon it only distracts us from our 'real' consciousness.

Certainly the unconscious, the part we do not control, (Involuntary? Out of the bounds of our volition? What are the repercussions of such thought?), is more efficient in finding solutions, as it has into its command a better arsenal of mechanisms (John Holland's reverberated cell assemblies) for arriving into solutions. Since it resides in what underlies the phenomenon, what is responsible for bringing out the phenomenon. But it looks to me that if we rely wholly into its commands, we might loose track of what we try to achieve.

That is due to its holistic nature. No matter what it is presented with, and by that I mean, regardless whether the presented is a complete whole or not, the result of incomplete and/or incorrect knowledge inherent in what is presented, that part of our consciousness will treat the presented as a whole despite being incomplete, and will act upon it as a whole. Assessment of the state of the environment, which defines the plan of action and guides decision making, is at fault as the presented only pretends to be a whole but, actually, is not.

And there is the other consciousness, the one we can control. The in-control consciousness. It has to deal with the state, the consciousness that we can not control, (the out-of-control consciousness?), brings forth. As I feel that what differentiates between these two aspects of consciousness is a sense of control that the individual asserts upon their function, it resembles the phenomenal and access consciousness as they are mentioned in this website. What distinguishes phenomenal consciousness (P-conscious), which I see as the out-of-control consciousness, is:

"we have P-conscious states when we see, hear, smell, taste and have pains. P-conscious properties include the experiential properties of sensations, feelings and perceptions, but I would also include thoughts, wants and emotions."

and for access consciousness (A-conscious), which I see as the in-control consciousness, is:

"A representation is A-conscious if it is broadcast for free use in reasoning and for direct “rational” control of action (including reporting)."

I am only going to use these quotes from this website, as I regard the rest as baggage that distracts me from my objective, mental constructs a result of overuse and abuse of language, language a symbolic system that suffers by the Godelitis syndrome. (I did not know that such a term exists, but the google search pleasantly surprised me.)

The 'in-control' consciousness will let the 'out-of-control' consciousness guide the immediate actions, since both are parts of consciousness as a whole, and it has to be trusted. But it is the 'in-control' consciousness that inspects the result of the action taken, and subsequently judge how effective the action was. It will examine every aspect of the environment the action has been applied, or at least every aspect, see what the 'out-of-control' part missed taken into account and report. The 'in-control' part will notice the need of what the 'out-of-control' part should take into account the next time, and guide learning about the aspects that have not been considered.

So there is a cycle of 'in-control' and 'out-of-control' phases of our consciousness. A loop, self-referential? Its output feeds back into the loop? The makings of chaos?

Not that long after I formulated these thoughts, doubt crept in. Am I wrong to postulate such a process? Have I underestimated the power of the holistic drive? What else would I call it? Than a drive? It powers its occurrence, its happening, its being there, its instantiation. Is it significant that I regard them both as one? Both being parts of a whole? And that by virtue of being a whole in itself, consciousness acts in a holistic manner? Has a power of its own?

Is the chaotic inference overlooked? Can the chaotic processes explain consciousness' holistic approach? What is holistic but the acceptance that every part of a whole plays a role, has its role? No matter whether it has been noticed or not? Whether it has being masked by the process that creates the whole in a 'more than the sum of its parts' fashion? The 'emerged' state does not reveal the full complement of the parts it has emerged from? Does holistic imply purpose? And purpose gives direction? We accept reality as being a whole and within reality there are other wholes built in hierarchies. The holistic nature of reality and the holistic nature of consciousness brought out of the same blueprint? Decoded out of the same code?

We have to break it apart and put it back again. We need to know what is made out of, how each little bit works, how it influences every other bit of the whole and how it is influenced by every bit of the whole. We do that with the knowledge that it works only if all is put back together again. Nothing is obsolete. Everything is needed no matter how inconspicuous, how insignificant it might appear to our senses, to our awareness, to our consciousness. It can only act as a whole.

And in the process we build our consciousness up.

The whole theme of poverty reminds me of the development of a chaotic system, or any such system presumed as chaotic by any individual, evading awareness, baffling consciousness on the grounds of the enormous complexity ensued due to the increased multiplicity of agents in a system, to remind myself of John Holland. It is bound to appear chaotic because of the complexity arising.

When I come across in the internet of websites that experiment with Mandelbrot or Julia sets, their creators give you the opportunity to change the final image, by changing the range of a few parametres. The final image changes completely. The point is that, as the final image of a mathematical structure can be toggled by the change of a few parametres, the same goes for social systems too. These toggled up parametres change the final arrangement in the system. Parameters which for social systems represent the norms societies adhere by.

Toggle up the parametres norms and you get a different system. A big part of these parametres, being monetary parametres that have influenced and modified the accepted norms, sanctioned by society. And though you do not know how the system will develop, you can have an idea to where the system is going to.

Using indicators to assess where the system has gone after changing the parametres. Indicators such as crime, juvenile delinquency, or any other relevant criteria within the social 'space', in that particular instance.

How the whole system arrangement would change if one crucial parameter, like monetisation is replaced, or a drastic change to it, is introduced.

The whole deployment is complicated, need to be thought of, in every aspect but necessity demands to think primarily of the gross details of the thought. It is the guiding lines that matter foremost.

Wasted lives why?
Lost ... what for?

They are talking about poverty and already they assume it is inevitable. Why? It is all down to what has been accepted as a norm and think the concept of poverty in the context that creates.

What do you mean about norm?

A rule that is socially enforced. Social sanctioning is what distinguishes norms from other cultural products or social constructions such as meaning and values. Norms and normlessness are thought to affect a wide variety of aspects in human behaviour.

You can not prescribe how life events will unfold. Determine the outcome, before they even had the chance starting the process. It is predicting not determining the outcome. But what can be set is, to provide the path, the context within which, life events are expected to unfold. Individuals invest in life events, time, efforts, dedication, hope, their whole being might be drained in the process. At the end what matters, is the effect on what individuals have invested in an unfolding life event more than the life event itself. They might have achieved a goal but at what cost, what human cost.

The life event itself as it is prescribed by the norms should be secondary in importance, to the qualities participating individuals invest.

Why individuals accept their predicament so abstractedly?

Nothing can be enforced in a society if the individuals in that society are against it. No laws, no norms, no moral code can prevail if that norm, law, moral code is not emanating from within the individuals, has not got its source and inspiration out of the consciousness of the individuals.

That is how I wonder why individuals accept their predicament so fatalistically. Social norms can also be viewed as statements that regulate behavior and act as informal social controls. They are usually based on some degree of consensus and are enforced through social sanctions.

It is the frame out of all the possible frames that you can not escape from. This frame tells you what your position is and defines poverty status. Frames, social structures, they are defined by prevalent concepts about human activities.

The frame is responsible for the poverty status. If you change the frame you will alter the poverty status too.

What defines that frame? What defines the boundaries?

The combined activities of the human individuals.

What kind of boundaries you are talking about? A frame must have boundaries.

These are monetary boundaries defined by the needs of their participants and the incoming monies to satisfy these needs.

Any investigation for any subject of knowledge starts by evoking on our subjective experience first, then we feel compelled to assume an objective stance to make sure that what we experience, is what others experience. To verify its occurrence, the reasons for its occurrence, to accumulate subjective reasonings and built a body of evidence, we behave showing a lack of faith on our own reasoning, our own subjective experience. We do not trust our own subjective experience and in the process we loose perspective. In order to become objective we forget our own subjective experience, to the point that we treat our own subjective experience as an illusion, and try to assimilate our subjective experience into a collective objective experience, the whole process becoming a statistical exercise.

Must a new science that we perhaps need, be so different from the science of today that the evoke and explain issues with regard to mentality may finally find natural explanations?.

Western civilisation a travesty of darwinian laws

Darwinian laws taken to extremes that never in nature have appeared at all. In nature, survival, as it is practiced commonly, no tiger no lion or any other predator, puts aside or kills, whatever its own survival needs do not require. Humans do. In order to do that they surpass nature's simple laws. I wonder what weird concept of fittest this distorted exercise of darwinian laws try to prove?

Humanity has achieved its goal of survival. It has tamed and maimed nature in the process. Humanity as a whole can feed and nourish the entire earth's population. When you hear about famines and disasters you wonder why this is happening. You wonder why it is left upon charities to provide remedies, that amount to aspirins prescribed to treat a devastating disease, treat the symptoms and not the cause and instead eradicate the disease in its roots.

Sterile monetisation, that's what it is.

A functional way to look at concepts and consciousness is fickle

What the mind understands (makes out) and what the brain sees are two different things. Allan Snyder gives a thorough approach.

"Our unconscious mind takes the flood of information and simplifies and categorises it into manageable and useful packages. Where it sees lines and patterns of dark and shade, our conscious mind might know it is a horse. We know that, because our brain has learned all about horses, has experienced what makes something a horse rather than a dog or a table, and has formed a concept and a mental image."

So a concept the package of all the lines and patterns of dark and shade accompanied with a mental image and a word. All that flow of information, the lines, the light, the motion; a rich bed of mathematical processes, the product of sophisticated mathematical operations to be reduced to a mere concept, a word and an image. And this process goes on myriads of times, in myriad individuals around the world.

What else I wonder has not been included in that tiny little bit of information that is conveyed to our consciousness? Why do we hold our consciousness to such high esteem? I see no reason.

How can it be efficient when a lot of information has been lost.

I could only imagine how it would have been if our consciousness could respond with the speed our brain records events around us.

But I do not need to imagine it. Allan Snyder's research focus on the extraordinary mental abilities of individuals with savant syndrome. Reports that

"savants experience only raw sensory information, and their precise drawings are a reflection of that. The reason most people can't draw like that is because of the way their minds extract meaning. Once the brain forms a concept, it inhibits the conscious mind from becoming aware of the details that created the concept in the first place. Our consciousness manipulate the content of our experience. It does not let us reach a deeper level.

Consciousness is fickle. And whoever boasts about the thinking prowess, intelligence and rationality possessed within his skull is fickle too.

Consciousness misleads us. There is another level in our brain's infrastructure that is more efficient, that we can reach and we should draw our power from. Instead of going after frivolous trivial unworthy pursuits in our lives, we should strive to unleash that power within us. Let us put our consciousness down for a worthwhile task.

The temptation was irresistible though it is my meeting with Sally's world(view) what is actually expressed in the title. Below is the abstract to her research paper "Today's Copernican flip: how putting collaborative learning at the hub of human evolution improves our chances of survival". Within it there are answers to questions which have lately been going on in my mind. Further exploration of her work is bound to lead me to new insights.

Monetisation, the all-surpassing overriding directive in individuals' simplified models of reality.

Each individual attempts to deal with the stuff in the world in a problem solving scenario. Knowledge derived from previous experience assists to formulate and subsequently solve the problem based on mental structures past experience has built. The world is vast and only take notice of a limited amount of information presented. The capacity to assess a situation and provide solutions is small. It only allows an individual, a bounded rationality a concept attributed to Herbert A. Simon as it is mentioned in the Cognitive Structure Notes, website.

As a result

"the intended rationality of an actor requires him to construct a simplified model of the real situation in order to deal with it."

Therefore each individual goes along in life armed with a simplified model which uses to deal with problems encountered.

"He behaves rationally with respect to this model, and such behaviour is not even approximately optimal with respect to the real world."

Whatever the letter or form of an individual's simplified model, there is a feature that deeply permeates and influences the solutions to problems the individual chooses, and this is monetisation. A feature incessantly promoted by states, governments, institutions, politicians, public and private organisations, a directive ruthlessly forced into the consciousness of each individual. Almost every human activity has to pass through the monetisation sieve. Principles, dignities, values, lives are looked primarily from the monetising perspective and accounted by it. Nothing escapes.

Therefore the simplified model an individual uses to deal with world issues, is heavily influenced by the monetisation principle. It is forced from above and against the will of the individual as the values held, are compromised to satisfy the monetising directives. It distorts choices and decisions made, forces to view life from a monetising perspective. A monetising drive that overrides almost everything else.

Short-lived? As opposed to long-lived ....

Just sprung into my mind and made me wonder. I felt I had to dig deep, in every nook and cranny of my brain, the deeper recesses of my mind, visited once or twice in a life-time and bring out whatever relevant mental structures, I have amassed during the course of my life.

Short-lived, like the goods we consume daily, what we eat and drink, the films we watch, the games we play, our times of passion and intimacy. Our looks.

As opposed to what? Long-lived? Long-lived in what sense? In regards with our lives, our body, our mind? What? Does long-lived span the entire length of our lives, or segments of our lives? Or spans out, our entire lives? Or even be out of time completely, in a realm where time does not exist. Timeless? There were always references to timeless in human history. One of them was the reference to ideas, concepts. Concepts and ideas that are not bounded by time. Timeless. And these I take must be long-lived.

And what else could long-lived be? Material? Of course not. Long-lived bear no relevance to material. Should be irrelevant of matter, as matter by itself is bound by time. Time makes material short-lived.

Consciousness and computing concepts

Going through notes which I scribbled down some years ago and titled them "New Ideas Laboratory". The following is an extract from an article by Stewart Hameroff.

"The main obstacle to realization of quantum computation is the problem of interfacing to the system (input, output) while also protecting the quantum state from environmental decoherence. If this problem can be overcome, then present day classical computers may evolve to quantum computers".

The interfacing of Hameroff's idea lit up a connection in my mind; interfaced, compelling me to explore its implications armed with whatever knowledge I possess now before I delve into his article. The word 'interfaced' I used, could it be the key? Is it an attempt to use my subjective experience of it, as it comes naturally within me? Interface what? What is an interface?

Taking ideas from the computing science field, their specific use of the interface concept: the two different kinds of programs, the client and the server. The client program wanting to instantiate objects served by the server and doing it so by the use of interfaces. Binary interfaces that both can understand, written in a language understood by both client and server programs. Each client and server programs evolved developed, making use of different languages of expression but nevertheless both built up from the same basic language, the binary, bits and zeros and the interfaces used are built from the same basic language so that the two kinds of programs can communicate with each other. Which means each individual client and server programs must have the ability, possess the proper functions to reach down to their basic levels and by doing so to establish a link, a handshake with the other program.

Can it be that our brain/mind uses the same principles? That our brain/mind being the client reaches down to its basic level language, the binaries of quantum computation, the same level that all reality exists and finds the interfaces which are available and gets connected with the various server programs that exist in nature, server programs that are responsible for the proper function of nature, natural phenomena, physical phenomena which we have understood and define with the laws of physics chemistry biology and so forth.

Which we need to look at them, examine them from another perspective, a perspective of language, programming language and define the language's code. Code that uses quantum computation at its basic level, define its 'bits and zeros' and therefore determine the nature of the interfaces that are used for client and server programs to communicate.

Who knows? We might be able to discover what consciousness is? Whether consciousness requires the 'I' to express itself? That the objects that client programs instantiate, in computing, via the interfaces by the server programs might be the same with the objects in the world?

Objects, being instantiated, in a similar way as in computing, as a result of client programs, executed by our brain/mind, via interfaces by server programs, executed by the physical universe.

Internet, inventions dont matter as much as being in tune with others!!

What did draw my attention in this entry. Inventions don't matter as much as being in tune with others. Tune with others? So, the way I see it, as if the whole of the internet community 'broadcasts to a particular frequency'. The whole? Holistic? According to, the whole is more than the sum of its parts. And there is a 'frequency', readily interpreted as a range of activities classified according to how frequently they are exercised, the higher the abundance value carried, the more prevalent they become. Therefore one who enters into the internet community has to assimilate into the activities prevalent, and go with the flow.
'In tune' and tuning bring notions of waves, about frequency, wavelengths amplitude. In radio broadcasting you talk about carrier waves that propagate radio wave signals. The radio waves piggy-backed on top of carrier waves traverse the atmosphere. The radio waves carry the information signals what makes radio interesting, what makes the difference. The carriers in that particular instance being people and the frequency part refers to their activities. Inventions, are thought off in order to improve the activities.
Improving the activities. I think that these would matter. Why don't they? Is it because the framework, that hosts the named activities rigid and inflexible and can not stand the ripples inventions might bring about? Has the internet community reached that point in their development? That they provide the tune to which every one should sing, weeding out any potential opposition. The whole story of the links and the incessant blogging theme becoming prevalent in the posts, lead the whole internet enterprise into stagnant waters. Carrier waves in radio are plain, blank, there is no variety there, unlike the radio signals they carry. If the necessity arises they are replaced.

Has Internet reached such a state that can not stand the ripples inventions bring about? I do not think so. On the contrary, inventions are continuously brought in, changes are introduced. The prevalent 'frequencies' change, the 'carriers' that resist such trends are put aside and their activities cease.
I see that the 'in tune with others' trend described above, expresses a will exercised by people who do not want to loose their prevalent position for this or the other reason, so they adopt a reactionary role and suppress potentially innovative ideas that are out of sync with the frequencies-activities they profess. They 'cornered the market' and would not allow upstarts with fancy ideas to overthrow them. It is sad that such an innovative enterprise is overtaken by man's oldest sin. That of privilege.

Chaotic explained

You are talking about emergence. Why chaos then. Chaos because when, even if a simple system unfold its mechanisms (game of chess), the states created are numerous, unable for a brain to comprehend, fathom, include at once. And becomes an even more formidable task when try to comprehend systems that are build out of mechanisms which by themselves are complex mechanisms, comprised of simpler mechanisms, and these in succession are by themselves complex and comprised by other simpler mechanisms and so on ... the combinations seem endless.
Our poor brain is helpless, can not cope. And to cap it up the world, our very own immediate environment for that part makes up the state spaces of many many systems, all with their own mechanisms unleashed to wreak havoc upon our poor senses and intellect, trying us hard, overwhelm our limited mental processing powers, bringing chaos in. All around us appear chaotic, unconnected, a ramble of states all competing hard to attract our attention.
But there is more to chaos than meets the eye as amidst it there is order underlying and once we accept that, we can see that chaos is not chaos at all, and what appears as chaos is the jumbling up of states, the constant re-arrangements, the cross-linking and breaking up of a system's mechanisms that has to take place so apparent order can finally emerge.
So what appears as chaotic is the transition from one ordered state to another, potentially emergent states, as the interactions between a system's multiple copies of the few allowed mechanisms, continue unabated, constantly re-arranging the geometry of the system, but always under the direction of the same simple rules, even at their most chaotic stages, that define the ordered emergent states.
How can it be chaotic if its development follows a path that is completely defined by the set of the few simple rules? There is order inherent in the rules, so chaos develops in an ordered fashion.

Chaos analysis? Chaos tools?

Analyzing, breaking down an object into its bits, objects that represent states of the world and these can be many, are found everywhere, anywhere you care to look, on earth, on the land we live, the neighbourhood we stay, our home, our kitchen, our bedroom. It all depends on the focus of our attention.

What are these tools? How can we proceed with such a so-called analysis? Chaos analysis?

It looks, as this has to do with the mechanisms John Holland mentions in his book of emergence. In page 130 of his book, I read about mechanisms that:

- simpler mechanisms combine to yield a more complex mechanism
- the interaction of the mechanisms generates complex, organised behaviour
- the mechanisms allowed will be few in kind and simple to describe, enforcing the deletion of many details.

Meta-thought: Would that last property of the mechanism concept can be used to clarify situations-states under study? Can it be used to analyze a certain situation, the object, a chaos analysis? Be a chaos tool?

How? By identifying the mechanisms involved in the emergence of situation- state, the object; and define them, use this definition as guide and classify the clutter that is presented in front of you, to specific and non-specific items to the object studied, the "enforcing the deletion of many details" part of the concept's property.

What do you mean? When you observe a certain situation-state, an object, drawn out of the world, you have a mixed background, Erich Harth's penumbrae, outputs of many processes that belong to other systems.
Systems boundaries overlap therefore when you isolate a part of the world for study, the elements observed belong to more than one system. You have to identify the elements that make up the mechanisms of the system under study, draw the attention towards the object and discard the elements of mechanisms that belong to other systems.

Therefore defining the mechanisms (which are few in kind and simple to describe) will "enforce the deletion of many details", specifically the inputs, outputs and mechanisms of other systems, intruding branches of other objects, the non-systemic elements. This will make sure that only the system, and therefore the object under study is considered.

Consciousness crumpled?

Stuart Hameroff builds up a case that dethrones consciousness from its pedestal. His exposition starts with a reference of how evoked potentials are triggered. As I could understand evoked potentials are the way sensory information is conveyed in the brain. But these potentials are too late, they occur 150 to 500 milli-sec after the stimulus. Whereas the actions that are the responses to the sensory information in the environment have either, already been initiated or even completed, namely within 100 milli-sec.
That tells me one thing, and one thing only. I do not need to think to go on living in this world. As most of these stimuli and their associated responses are what determine the course of our lives. In some cases they even determine whether we die or live. In other cases again determine between failure or success in our lives. So despite all these, we are drawn to a conclusion that denies our most cherished quality as human beings, to consciously determine the course of our lives. The pinnacle of our personalities that we built, the pride we take in asserting responsibility for our actions, for the choices we make and for the decisions we take, all crumple right before our very eyes.
Whatever subjective feeling we have, that we consciously control these behaviours is an illusion, they are merely nonconscious reflexive responses.
Accordingly, consciousness is epiphenomenal (a secondary phenomenon, a consequence or side-effect of the primary phenomenon) and we are (as T.H. Huxley said) "conscious automata, helpless spectators", (in Stuart Hameroff).
So, if consciousness is not what we use in order to guide our lives then what is? What determines our actions in fight or flight situations? Is there anything that could provide an answer of what has been the factor that determined human responses in their myriad decisive acts in the past?
My own personal experience corroborates the illusion of consciousness. In my younger days there were a few occasions where I found myself under threatening conditions. Conditions which required immediate and decisive action. As, I vividly remember, though might sound as oxymoron in the light of what follows, right at the most decisive moment in these encounters, I experienced a temporary but complete blackout,total loss of consciousness. It lasted mere seconds, but in these seconds adrenalin powered actions resolved (cleansed) the threatening circumstances.
The explanation that I could amass was that the blood flow was diverted towards the parts of my body, where blood was needed most i.e. muscles and away from the regions that they needed blood less. And among these regions, were the regions that conferred towards consciousness. Consciousness being obsolete and therefore temporarily shut off.

Mind sets and their overriding influence

     Just imagine it, from all the books lying around for me to pick, I picked David Peat's book, and from the 200-odd pages to pick out, I picked the page, page 33, that so fitted my current thinking mode. I have a chain of thoughts for that, which is not current, at present. It concerns anticipation, built in the firing sequences of reverberating cell assemblies, the kind John Holland deals with, in his book about emergence. The future prediction built in, in thought processing mechanisms, but leave it for now.
     This is the extract that so fitted my current thought patterns, that I feel compelled to write about. It is out of the book of F. David Peat, "Pathways of Chance", published in Italy by Pari Publishing at 2007.
     I will quote the extract, and follow it with my comments. "That brings me to another point; in most cases scientists see what they expect to see. Or rather they have theories and methods that allow them to make calculations for certain types of systems. These theories then become ways of seeing".
     Taking on the point made beyond the isolated group of people, scientists, the same holds for every group of individuals, and for every single individual for that matter. Each one of us, either as by virtue of membership to a group we identify ourselves in, or our very own self, we hold theories, systems of beliefs, ideas that we use to explain and make sense out of the constantly unfolding events around us, they become ways of seeing , our ways of seeing.
     "To take one example, for centuries scientists were able to make calculations for nice simple , linear systems that were close to equilibrium. This meant that everything they saw around them was linear and near to equilibrium. Anything else, anything that didn't fit into that way of seeing and calculating , was dismissed as an anomaly".
     That is exactly the way, everyone of us, acts as well. Our built in system of beliefs and ideas, our common-sense, which we use to explain the world around us, becomes so overriding, that we quite easily dismiss everything else, that does not fit in our currently held systems of beliefs and ideas, as an anomaly.
     Taking the matter further, our set frame of mind is responsible for what we see or we do not see at all, before we go on about dismissing it. As our mind is built out of the firing sequences of reverberating cell assemblies (John Holland again), in response to stimuli in the environment, if we have not built the corresponding reverberating cell assemblies, to a given sequence of stimuli, that stimuli sequence will not elicit a response, at all: leaving us, totally unaware of its presence. No response elicited, no imprint in our mind of its existence. We do not see that at all, next to the lines of, it did not and does not exist for us. Leaving us in an ignorant state of mind.
     Totally unseen, or dismissed, it would have been OK, if it stopped there. However as all the beliefs, ideas in the world, are there because of individuals, acting as group or single entities, carry them on, so when we dismiss as an anomaly unfit systems of beliefs and ideas, we dismiss as well the individuals and the groups they belong, as easily too. Such an act is expressed in our lives in various ways and some of these ways are not good. They are not good at all. But anyway. Leave that for now.
     Back to the extract, "But then chaos theory came along, a way of dealing with non-linear systems and systems that are far from equilibrium. Suddenly scientist began to see chaos, complexity and fractals everywhere-from the stock market to clouds, mountains and insect populations".
     And there is the crunch, since scientists shown the way, so we should follow suit. Since all life systems we have built and continue to build, of whatever scale, are inherently non-linear and far from equilibrium. In the process of unfolding our life events, we should stop looking at chaos as the destruction of order, we should delve into its creative potential too. Where there is death there comes along, follows suit, rebirth.

Computerised data of private information systems analysed

     It concerns states achieved. And what are these states? Breach notifications? Trigger breach notifications. Trigger breach notifications when there is a breach in the security of the system. What system is that? The system comprised by the computerised data that include private information.
     So there is a system that is defined by its content and the content is computerised data of private information. Is that a valid definition? Can we describe a system in that manner? If we accept that as a definition in that case, that should hold for other systems too, more concrete than this case of a system is.
     Taking in account, that by addressing the concept of the system, we should think along the lines of agents, features of agents, conditions of its environment, its process space, the simple rules that hold, that govern the agents activity as they interact with each other and its environment Though environment might not be the correct term and "process space" is more appropriate. My suspicion is that the content of that system, the computerised data do not qualify it as a system, and as such we should accept it as a mere collection of entities and not a system.
      Since to qualify as a system it should have agents, features, conditions, process space, simple rules, interactions. And by them evolve through the stages of chaos, along with sensitive dependence on initial conditions, the development of emergent states, and from these developed states some of them will be selected. States selected will multiply, re-enforce and become the norm, emergence and natural selection.
     Computerised data as such can not be taken as possessing all these qualities therefore they are simply collections and not a system. There is a system though and the computerised data are the object they deal with. There are agents in such a system, and these are the individuals involved in handling the computerised data.
     And who are these agents? The person or business which conducts business in a state and which owns or licences computerised data which includes private information. Private information is the object they deal with and the nature of its object, namely private information, determines the rules of engagement, so to speak.
      Since they are private they should be kept secret from all apart from the person they deal with. Since the person-client, can not, or chooses not to, participate in the transactions the computerised data are used in, the person or business handles the data on its behalf, acts as a medium in a transaction that involves the person and the service or business, it transacts with.
     The private information should be kept secret from any other individual or business that is not involved in the transaction. The sole owner of the private information remains the individual its content refer to. No other person or business should have knowledge of the content of the data, neither the person or business that holds the data on its behalf. They can not own what is not theirs. They can own only that part of the data that is directly relevant to their own specific transactions with the person-client.
      The term computerised data can be easily translated into encrypted data. Therefore the person or business holds the private information in an encrypted form, at all times, and is only released, and more importantly released information, is only the portion that is relevant to the transaction, when a transaction takes place. Once the transaction is complete the information reverts back to its encrypted form.
      The release can be effected via a code by the client at the time of the transaction, programmed by software. Such a process if not eliminate, will minimise the risk of private information been acquired by a person without valid authorisation.
     Therefore to finish that deliberation here, the sole person that owns the private information is the person-client that the private information is about. The person or business keeps the computerised data, in an encrypted form, on the person's behalf, it can only own per transaction specific, portion of that data, and is only released when the transaction takes place.
The simple rule of secrecy is fulfilled.
